CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Amanda Macenko, who went 3-1 with a 1.27 ERA for the Vikings last week, has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Wednesday.
The award is the eighth of Macenko's career, the second-highest total in league history and two short of the record of 10 set by UIC's Samantha Iuli.
"Amanda had a pretty good week," CSU head coach Angie Nicholson said. "She had struggled during the early part of the season with a illness that was preventing her from attacking the batters like she is used to. She overcame that last week and began to show the form that made her the top pitcher in the Horizon League."
In her five appearances (three starts), Macenko allowed only four earned runs in 28.1 innings, striking out 28 with no walks. In the final two games of the weekend series against Wright State, she recorded a pair of complete games victories, allowing 11 hits and no earned runs. The honor is Macenko's eighth of her career.
The Vikings, 11-10 overall and 2-1 in Horizon League play, open their home schedule with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Morehead State on Thursday.
