Men's Soccer Drops First League Match

Cleveland, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's soccer team lost their first Horizon League match of the 2009 season, when they fell to Green Bay, 3-0. Green Bay scored twice during the first half, and once more in the middle of the second half.

Green Bay outnumbered the Vikings in shots 13-5 during the contest. Stephen Byer recorded a pair of shots, while Aaron Adkins, Josh Williams and Slavisa Ubiparipovic each added one.

Tyler Rosenberg scored the first goal for the Phoenix in the seventh minute when he found the back of the net off a corner kick play. David Prochazka took the corner kick for Green Bay and Francois Basty found Rosenberg with a header, both recording assists on the play.

The Phoenix scored again in the 28th minute with an unassisted goal by JC Banks. Banks dribbled the ball up the right side beating the Viking defense and goalkeeper Brad Stuver into the right side of the net.

Banks also scored the final goal of the match in the 70th minute from the top right side of the box. Stuart Grable had the assist on the goal when he fed Banks down the right side of the field.

Stuver played all 90 minutes in the net for CSU recording three saves.

The Vikings move to 3-4-3 on the season, 1-1-2 in the Horizon League, while Green Bay improves to 8-1-2, 3-1-0 in the league.

The Vikings return to action on Friday (Oct. 9) when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State at 5:00 p.m.
