Vikings Swept by Northwestern at Dayton Invitational

DAYTON, Ohio - Cleveland State was swept by Northwestern in its first match of the day at the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Frericks Arena. Match scores were 25-19, 27-25, 25-21.

The Vikings slip to 1-4 with the loss, while Northwestern improves to 2-2.

Liz Fazio paced the CSU offensive attack, finishing with nine kills. Beth Greulich and Amy Benz added seven kills each and Jenni Ramminger had six. Jordan Goad finished with 24 assists and Alexis Korovich tallied a team-best eight digs.

The Wildcats, who hit .279 for the match, had three players in double-digit kills, including Brittani Gray and Sabel Moffet who had 13 apiece. Chelsy Hyser added 12 kills, while Kate Nobilio recorded a match-best 17 digs.

Setter Elyse Glab handed out 44 assists.

Northwestern held advantages in just about every stat category, including kills (50-38), hitting percentage (.279-.173), digs (40-29) and assists (49-34). Both teams finished with one service ace and 13 blocks.

CSU will conclude action in the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 6) night when the Vikings take on the host Flyers at 7:30 p.m.
