FAIRBORN, Ohio - Clevland State jumped out to a 2-0 leade, but Wright State rallied for a five-set victory over the Vikings in Horizon League action on Friday night at C.J. McLin Gymnasium.
Game scores were 23-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-14, 19-17.
The loss drops the Vikings to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the league, while the Raiders improved to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Amy Benz led the Vikings by hitting .412 with match highs of 15 kills and nine kills. She committed just one error in 34 attack attempts.
Beth Greulich added a double-double with 11 kills and 10 blocks, while Jenni Ramminger had 10 kills. Jordan Goad flirted with a triple-double before finishing with 44 assists, 13 digs and seven kills, while Jordan Bateman amassed 27 digs.
The Vikings claimed a 2-0 lead with 25 kills in the first two sets and forcing the Raiders into 16 attack errors and a .030 attack percentage.
However, WSU repsonded by winning set three and hit ..375 (13-1-32) in the fourth set to even the match and send it into a deciding fifth match.
The Raiders started out stong in the fifth set, racing out to an 11-5 lead following a CSU attack error. However, the Vikings refused to go away, going on an 8-2 run to even the fifth set at 13-13.
A WSU attack error gave CSU a 16-15 lead, but Becca Awaa recorded an attack to even the match at 16-16. After the teams traded points, CSU tallied consecutive attack errors as the Raiders completed their comback to earn the win.
Saunda Sandifer finished with 13 kills to lead the Raiders, while Jessica Woods added 10 kills and 18 digs. Michelle Hammond registered 43 kills and eight digs, while Leilani Tafuna totaled a team-best 26 digs.
CSU will return to action next Friday (Oct. 5) when the Vikings travel to Valparaiso for a 7:00 p.m. CST match.
