DeKALB, Ill. - Cleveland State dropped its second straight contest at the Northern Illinois Invitational as the Vikings were defeated by the host Huskies, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Game scores were 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.

CSU fell to 0-2 on the young season, while UNI improved to 2-0.

Beth Greulich led the Vikings with 11 kills, committing just one error in 19 attempts for a .526 hitting percentage. She was the lone CSU player to reach double-digit kills as Liz Fazio finished with eight and Jenni Ramminger with seven.

Jordan Goad (21) and Natalie Bauer (8) combined for 29 assists, while Jordan Bateman had a match-high 13 digs.

CSU had a five-point advantage (20-15) in the opener, but UNI rallied with six straight points to take a 21-20 lead. CSU responded with three consecutive points of its own on a kill from Greulich, a block assist from Amy Benz and Greulich and a UNI attack error. But that would be CSU's last point of the set as the Huskies went on to score the final four points.

UNI hit a stellar .429 (14-2-28) in set two, using a 9-4 run midway through the set to take a 2-0 lead.

The Vikings appeared poised to send the match to a fourth set, claiming a 17-10 lead on back-to-back kills from Fazio to force a UNI timeout. However, the Huskies scored 10 of the next 12 points out of the timeout, forcing the Vikings to call their two timeouts during the stretch.

UNI pushed its lead to 24-21, but kills by Greulich and Ramminger brought CSU back within one point (24-23). However, UNI wrapped up the match on Irene Johnson's kill.

UNI (2-0) was paced by a 15-kill afternoon by Allison McGlaughlin, while Meagan Schoenrock recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs. Amanda Tadla amassed 35 assists for the Huskies, who hit .247 for the match and had seven aces

The Vikings conclude play at the UNI Invitational on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. EST against Chicago State.
