LEXINGTON, Ky. - Cleveland State hit .253 (58-18-158) and claimed a 30-26, 30-24, 30-28 sweep of Austin Peay in the first match of the Kentucky Invitational Friday night at Memorial Coliseum.

"I was pleased with the way we rebounded after a tough five-set match on Tuesday night," head coach Chuck Voss said. "Although we didn't play our best, it's always good to get a win. We'll have to play a lot better tomorrow against Georgetown and Kentucky."

The Vikings received 14 kills from sophomore Liz Fazio, while junior Jenni Ramminger and freshman Amy Benz posted 11 kills and four blocks each. Junior Jordan Bateman (21) and senior Sienna Steinle (11) reached double digit digs and senior Mel Snyder handed out 35 assists.

"I thought Jordan was outstanding for us defensively, especially with her ball control" Voss said

CSU, which had four players hit better than .420, held Austin Peay to a .159 hitting percentage and held an 8-5 advantage in blocks.

Dodi Szymska paced the Generals with 14 kills to tie Fazio for match high honors.

CSU (4-2) will return to action with a pair of matches at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday. The Vikings will play Georgetown at 12:00 pm before taking on the host Wildcats at 7:00 pm.
