CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's and women's tennis players suffered a similar fate on Thursday at their respective ITA Regional Tournaments as neither of the four Vikings competing were able to win their first round qualifying draws and work their way into the main draw.

At the men's regional in Minneapolis, Minn., Ryan Hamning dropped a tough 6-2, 7-6(5) decision to Louisville's Ben Close, to be eliminated from the draw. Hamning came back in a consolation match to defeate Xavier's Chris Herlinger, 6-4, 6-0.
Rob West dropped both of his matches on Thursday, falling 7-6 (6), 6-3 to Chicago State's Prakso Immanuel, the No. 12 seed in the bracket, to be eliminated from the draw and 6-3, 6-1 to Xavier's Ra'ees Ishmael in the consolation round.
"It was nice to see Ryan come back in the consolation and win a match," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I thought both players went out and gave it their all in their first matches but the field was a very difficult one."
At the women's tournament at the University of Michigan, the Vikings failed to win a set in the two qualifying draws but went to a third set tiebreaker before falling in each of the consolation matches.
Melissa Holzinger fell 6-0, 6-2 to DePaul's Selma Salkovic while Jackie Tabb dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Minnesota's Danielle Mousseau.
Play continues on Friday at both tournaments with the qualifying play ending and doubles play beginning. The CSU team of Jackie Tabb and Jenn Myers will compete in doubles play while the men will be represented by the duo of Ryan Hamning and Phil Orno.
On Saturday, play in the main singles draw begins with Phil Orno representing Cleveland State.
