CLEVELAND -
For the third time this season, and the fifth time in her career, Cleveland State senior Kortney Spidell has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week. The Vikings have claimed six of the 10 weekly pitching honors this season, with classmate Grace Luginbuhl garnering three as well.
Spidell went 3-0 last week with a 2.40 ERA and her first save of the season. In Saturday's (April 29) twin bill at Wright State, she saved the first game with 1.2 hitless innings in relief. The Strasburg, Ohio native then turned around and pitched the first 10 innings of the night cap to earn the victory in a 6-5, 11-inning decision. Earlier in the week, she picked up both wins in a doubleheader sweep of Toledo.
Spidell is 11-3 with a 1.70 ERA on the year.
Cleveland State enters the final week of the regular season with a 34-10 overall record and in first place in the Horizon League with a 13-5 mark. The Vikings host Detroit for a doubleheader on Saturday (May 6) and a single game on Sunday (May 7), with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. both days.
