Final Stats

CHICAGO - Grace Luginbuhl hurled a two-hit shutout and J.J. Thornberry backed her up with a pair of home runs as Cleveland State defeated Loyola, 7-0, in the rubber game of the weekend series. With the win, the Vikings improve to 19-7 and 4-2 in the Horizon League, while the Ramblers fall to 9-27, 4-4.

CSU scored single runs in the first and second innings, on a Christa Coppus RBI and a passed ball, respectively.

The Vikings broke the game open with three runs in the third. Thornberry provided two of the runs with a home run to left center, while a Shannon Graves infield single accounted for the other tally.

Cleveland State closed out the scoring with a Michelle Nicholas RBI single in the fifth and a solo blast by Thornberry in the seventh.

Luginbuhl struck out seven and did not allow a runner past first base as she tossed her third shutout to improve to 12-4 on the year.

Laura DeLeon surrendered four earned runs and eight hits in 2.1 innings to fall to 5-8.

"We did everything well today," CSU head coach Julie Jones. "I'm disappointed with how we played in the second game yesterday, but it's great to take two-of-three on the road. It was nice to come back from being embarrassed with a solid effort today."

The Vikings return home on Wednesday (April 12) to host Youngstown State for a single game beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Viking Field.
