Game One Stats | Game Two Stats

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State could only muster four runs on Tuesday afternoon against St. Francis, but that was enough to sweep the Red Flash by scores of 2-1 and 2-0. Seniors Kortney Spidell and Grace Luginbuhl combined to allow just six hits and a run as the Vikings improved to 23-9 on the season and 7-1 at Viking Field.

Game one was a pitcher's duel between Spidell and SFU's Angela Rocco. Spidell surrendered just three hits and a sixth-inning run on a RBI groundout to improve to 6-3 on the year.

Rocco (8-9) nearly matched Spidell, giving up just five hits and two runs in the complete game loss.

The Vikings got on the board in the first when Christa Coppus drew a two-out walk, stole second and came around to score on a Michele Penney RBI single.

CSU tacked on an insurance run in the fourth when a Spidell two-out single scored pinch runner Amanda Kern.

Grace Luginbuhl turned in a dominating performance in game two, allowing just three hits while striking out 10 and walking none as the Red Flash (18-27) advanced just one runner past first base. She moved to 15-5 on the year by tossing her second straight shutout and fifth of the season.

Laura Caldwell (8-10) was the hard-luck loser, surrendering just four hits and a pair of runs while fanning five.

The Vikings got Luginbuhl all the run support she would need in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run on a double steal and an RBI groundout by Penney.

Whitney Willard extended her hitting streak to 10 games with three hits on the day.

"Kortney and Grace were outstanding in the circle for us today -- which was a good thing because we weren't really hitting the ball," CSU head coach Julie Jones said. "Now we need to build on these two wins and get some momentum going."

Cleveland State is in action again on Thursday (April 20) when the Vikings travel to Ohio for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
