DETROIT -
Detroit used a 42-11 run spanning halftime as the Titans cruised to a 78-46 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon in Calihan Hall. The Vikings drop to 3-20 overall and 1-11 in the Horizon League with their 11th consecutive loss, while the Titans improve to 11-13 and 8-5.
The teams battled to a 17-17 tie after the opening 12 minutes as the defenses dominated early. However, the Titans closed out the half on a 14-5 run as CSU went without a point for nearly six minutes.
Detroit carried the momentum over into the second half, opening with a 28-6 burst over the first 11 minutes to open a 32-point advantage (59-27). Katie Solner and Caitie Goddard fueled the run with 11 and six points respectively. Solner's third three-pointer of the jaunt pushed her past the 1,000-point mark for her career.
The Titans made 11 three-pointers to just one for the Vikings, in addition to forcing 28 CSU turnovers.
"We just didn't match Detroit's intensity this afternoon," CSU head coach Kate Peterson said. "Offensively, we're just not getting scoring from enough people on a consistent basis."
Dominique Butler led the Vikings with a game-high15 points, while Natalie Miller added 11.
Goddard notched 14 points for the Titans, while Pasquinzo and Solner finished with 11 points each.
Cleveland State returns to the Wolstein Center next week for their final two home games. The Vikings will square off against Youngstown State on Monday (Feb. 13), followed by a Senior Day affair on Saturday (Feb. 18) versus Loyola.
