Post Game Quotes
Cleveland State Head Coach Mike Garland: "The way we have been shooting the ball in the last few weeks, we cannot allow what happened to us in the first half defensively. We let Quin Humphrey go for 18 right out of the box. We controlled him in the second half, but by that point they had scored and were right with us. That helped set the tone for them. The way we are shooting right now, we can't allow an opponent to be able score those kind of points right out of the box."
"No matter what you do, you have to make shots. Right now, we're not making shots. Tonight, we had point-blank attempts right at the end to bring it to within one and we couldn't get the ball to go in the basket. The first half of the game, we shot 60 percent, but at the end, we shot 18 percent. We had some wide open looks and we could not get the shots to go down. We have been spending a large amount of time on shooting [in practice]. But our shots are just not falling."
"I'm not ready to panic on this team at all. It is quite obvious that we can play well enough to beat any team in this league. There's no question about that. If we had held them to 32 percent shooting for the entire game rather than just the second half, we wouldn't even be talking about a loss. We'd be talking about a win. But give Quin Humphrey credit, he hit some big shots on us."
Cleveland State guard Victor Morris: "We have to be more patient. We were more patient in the first half on offense. We moved the ball well and got wide open shots and weren't able to knock them down. The second half, we kind of forced shots a little and made a couple bad decisions that caused us to miss easy shots.
Cleveland State forward Frashon McGee: "I think part of the problem was that we starting thinking instead of just playing. Youngstown played us tough and hard. We got almost everything we wanted, but we didn't capitalize on opportunities."
Cleveland State forward Patrick Tatham: "We shied away from attacking the zone that they were playing. We weren't as aggressive as we were in the first half."
On the team's struggles at home: "For some reason, playing at home has been our Achillies Heel. We can play better on the road, so we need to steal two out of three on the road."
Youngstown State guard Quin Humphrey: "In the locker room, we were very motivated because they beat us in our house and that was our worst league loss this season, so we took the game personal. Both teams came out and played hard. There was a lot of aggression and I'm just happy we came out on top."
Youngstown State Head Coach Jerry Slocum: "I thought it was a great team win for us in terms of everyone contributing. We have a lot of respect for CSU. They came into our building and manhandled us and I thought our kids tonight came out with great intensity and played hard."
