Cleveland State Falls At Youngstown State, 68-56

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cleveland State lost its fifth consecutive Horizon League game, dropping a 68-56 decision at Youngstown State on Thursday night. With the defeat, the Vikings fall to 3-14 overall and 1-5 in the league, while the Penguins improve to 5-12, 1-5. Erin Martin paced CSU with 17 points, eight assists and five steals.

YSU started the game with a 15-2 burst and ended the opening half with an identical run to head into the locker room with a 44-31 advantage. Kristy Gaudiose tied a school single game record, knocking down seven three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes.

The Penguins controlled play for much of the second half, eventually pushing the lead to 23 (66-43) with 5:24 remaining, before CSU cut the deficit to 12 at the final horn.

YSU shot 48.1 percent from the field (26-54) and held a 42-27 advantage on the boards, while the Vikings connected on 40.0 percent of their shots (22-55).

Dominique Butler notched nine points for CSU.

Gaudiose finished with a game-high 23 points, adding just a pair of free throws in the second half. Jessica Schloemp tallied 20 points and 19 rebounds, both career-highs.

Cleveland State is off for a week before traveling to league-leading UW-Green Bay on Thursday, Jan. 26.
