CLEVELAND -
Senior Ashley Schrock (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) did it all for Cleveland State on Saturday night to help the Vikings defeat Butler 80-61. Schrock came just one rebound short of her third career triple-double, finishing with 24 points, a career-high 12 assists and nine boards. She either scored or assisted on 21 of CSU's 26 field goals. With the win, the Vikings (11-10, 8-2 HL) moved within a half-game of league-leading UW-Green Bay (15-6, 9-2).
CSU led 40-34 at halftime and slowly extended the margin to double-digits in the second half. The Vikings shot 51.0 percent from the field and held a massive 46-31 rebounding margin as CSU topped the 80-point plateau for the fourth time this season.
"I really thought our defense was the difference in the game," CSU head coach Kate Peterson said. "This was the first game we were able to establish a lead and not let the other team make a run at us. Now we have to take care of business on the road."
Two days after scoring her 1,000th career point, senior Shannon Sword (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) knocked down 11-of-12 free throws en route to 21 points -- her league-leading 11th 20-point game. Sophomore Erin Martin (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) added 14 points on the strength of four three-pointers.
Senior Nancy Bowden led the Bulldogs (8-13, 4-6 HL) with 14 points, five assists and three steals.
Cleveland State is in action again when the Vikings travel to Loyola on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 8:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Chicago and on Time Warner Cable in Dayton.
