Vikings Fall At League-Leading Butler, 73-57

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Despite shooting 51 percent from the field, Cleveland State was upended by Butler 73-57 on Saturday as the Bulldogs recorded their 13th straight victory at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Vikings (7-14 overall, 2-6 Horizon League) led by six points, 30-24, with 2:39 left in the first half, but Mike Monserez scored the next six points to allow the Bulldogs (17-3, 7-1) to tie the game 30-all at the half.

However, the Bulldogs outscored Cleveland State 43-27 in the second half, fueled mainly by a 15-1 run over a six-minute span. Jermaine Robinson scored for the Vikes with 9:24 remaining and CSU trailed just 50-48. However, a Robinson free throw at 5:55 would be the Vikings' only output until a Pape Badiane score at 3:42 to make the score 65-51.

Sophomore guard Percell Coles (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) went 7-of-9 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, to lead the Vikings with 19 points while senior forward Tahric Gosley (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) tossed in 14.

Brandon Miller took game honors with 22 points while Monserez and Duane Lightfoot added 12 apiece for the Bulldogs.

CSU hit 22-of-43 floor shots for 51.2 percent but Butler nearly matched the effort, knocking down 24-of-48 attempts for 50 percent.

The Bulldogs held a narrow 24-23 edge on the boards but CSU's Gosley grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. In addition, Gosley recorded four blocked shots to become just the second CSU player ever to record 30 or more blocked shots in each of his four years, joining Darren Tillis.
