CLEVELAND - Shaky second-half shooting sank the Vikings Saturday night as league-leading UW-Milwaukee handed Cleveland State a 70-58 loss at Goodman Arena.
CSU (6-8, 1-1 Horizon League) and the Panthers (11-3, 3-0) were tied 33-all at the half as both teams committed turnovers to the tune of 12 apiece. However, neither team really capitalized on each others mistakes as CSU scored nine points of miscues compared to eight for UWM. The Vikes helped themselves by hitting 56 percent (22-of-48) from the field while the Panthers used five 3-pointers to stay even.
In the second half, however, CSU struggled from the field, connecting on 34.8 percent (8-of-23). UWM stayed fairly consistant, hitting 45 percent for the game (27-of-60).
UWM senior Clay Tucker, an Ohioan, took game honors with 21 points and Dylan Page added 12. Jason Frederick and Justin Lettenberger had 11 each.
Senior Tahric Gosley (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) led the Vikes with 12 points, going 5-for-5 from the field while junior Pape Badiane (les Ulis, France/Sacred Heart Academy) added 10 off the bench.
The Panthers outrebounded CSU 37-24 as Nate Mielke grabbed a game-high eight points. Badiane paced CSU with six caroms.
