CLEVELAND - Despite a game-high 21 points from senior Tahric Gosley (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz), Cleveland State fell to visiting Kent State 91-68 at Goodman Arena Saturday night.
Gosley hit 8-of-9 shots from the floor for the Vikings, 4-5, and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Modibo Niakate added 14 points for Cleveland State.
The Golden Flashes improved to 5-0 as senior forward Antonio Gates just missed a triple-double with 20 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Gates got support from Nate Gerwig, who scored 20 before leaving the game with a shoulder injury, and Anthony Wilkins, who tossed in 19.
KSU shot 60.9 percent (14-of-23) in the first half to open up a 37-26 lead at intermission as CSU hit just 36 percent (9-of-25). Although the Vikes stepped in up in the second stanza, hitting 60.9 percent (14-0f-23), Kent State maintained their pace and connected on 55.9 percent (19-of-34).
The Golden Flashes outrebounded CSU 34-26.
