Matt Schaeffer enters his first season as the assistant coach of the Cleveland State swimming team.
Schaeffer arrives after spending the last two seasons at Case Western Reserve University. In his two seasons, he assisted in 19 All-Americans (12 from the women's team and seven from the men's team).
Both seasons, the Spartans finished top 35 nationally with each team’s best finish coming in his first season: women’s team 17th and the men’s team 25th (best finish in 27 years).
Schaeffer began his coaching career at Connecticut College for two seasons, aiding in four All-Americans, including the 2024 CSCAA Division III Swimmer of the Year. Outside of the pool, he was instrumental in ten athletes earning CSCAA Scholar All-American recognition.
Schaeffer, an Ohio native, earned a Bachelor of Arts in data science at Wittenberg University in 2022.
