Mario Houston enters his first season as an assistant coach of the Cleveland State women’s soccer team.
Houston comes to Cleveland State after serving as the head coach of the Nordonia head women’s soccer coach for two seasons. He has also spent 17 years with the Ambassadors soccer club as a coach and goalkeeper coach.
Houston has coached five seasons at Laurel School, two seasons at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, and a season at Aurora High School.
In 2016, Houston was named the Private School Soccer Coach of the Year by the Greater Akron Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.
Houston studied Anthropology at Arizona State University and Cleveland State University, and was commissioned as an U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant, New Mexico Military Institute.
Houston is a USSF "C" Licensed Coach and NSCAA Level 1 & 2 certified Goalkeeper Coach.
Mario is married to Dr. Candis Platt-Houston and they have two children - Myles and Camryn.
