Chalmers McGillivray

Chalmers McGillivray is entering his fourth season as the diving coach for the Cleveland State men’s and women’s team.

In year three, McGillivray coached four Viking divers to NCAA Zones, which included two men and two women. The men were repeat qualifiers in Xander Austin and James Wolf while the women saw Brooke Eichel make her second straight appearance and Liz Seiter’s first.

At the 2024-25 Horizon League Championships, Xander Austin was the runner-up in 1-meter, and James Wolf came in third in 3-meter.

Off the boards, Brooke Eichel was named to her second straight Horizon League All-Academic Team.

The 2023-24 season saw three CSU divers qualify for NCAA Zones, including two freshmen on the men’s side and one junior on the women’s. The men’s duo competed on both boards, while Eichel took part in one-meter. At the #HLSD Championships, Xander Austin placed third in one-meter.

In McGillivray’s first season with the Vikings, the dive program had just one athlete on the women’s side. Sophomore, Brooke Eichel finished sixth in one-meter and eleventh in three-meter at the Horizon League Championships.

Prior to Cleveland State, McGillivray spent 15 years at various Michigan high schools overseeing their dive programs. His stints included Ypsilanti Public Schools, Brother Rice, Detroit Country Day, Birmingham Public Schools, and Troy School District.

McGillivray was named the Michigan High School Diving Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2021. He coached four All-Americans and four State Champions, while also being a part of seven State Championship teams at Seaholm High School.

A native of Seaholm, Michigan, McGillivray dove for Eastern Michigan University for a season, placing sixth in one-meter and tenth in three-meter. In that season, he helped the Eagles win the 2003 MAC Championship.

As a prep diver at Seaholm High School, McGillivray earned All-American and All-State honors in 2002.

McGillivray graduated from Eastern Michigan in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in political science and sociology.
