CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened play at the Horizon League Championship Friday, picking up a 4-2 victory over IU Indy in the opening round. With the win, the Vikings will now face top-seeded Oakland in Saturday's semifinals.
Saturday's semifinal appearance will be the 15
th straight trip to the semifinals for the Vikings.
Cleveland State opened the match by picking up the doubles point, as

Melliz Petkova Mustafa earned a 6-1 win at the top of the lineup and
Jenna Redmile/
Laura Tapia posted a matching 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Although IU Indy evened the match with a win at No. 5 singles then, the Vikings responded with an efficient 6-3, 6-3 victory from Franz at No. 1 singles to give the momentum back to Cleveland State.
Redmile then extended Cleveland State's lead to 3-1 following a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles, before IU Indy closed the gap to 3-2 with a win at the No. 3 spot.
After the No. 2 and No. 6 matches went into third sets, Mancino and Geisz were able to quickly gain control on their respective courts, with Mancino eventually earning the 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot to clinch the match for the Vikings.
Saturday's semifinal contest against Oakland is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
