Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Falls At IU Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team came up short in their second match of Horizon League opening weekend play, dropping a 4-3 contest at IU Indy.

"IU Indy earned this one today, they played a great match and although this was a tough loss, I'm looking forward to how we respond when he hit the courts again next week," head coach Brian Etzkin said.

Despite losing the doubles point, Cleveland State's top team of Lincoln Battle and Carl Gedlitschka earned a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot.

After trailing 1-0 heading into singles play, the Vikings were able to quickly even the score with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the top of the lineup from Battle.

IU Indy responded with three straight wins though, clinching the match with victories at No. 5, No. 2, and No. 4 singles.

After the match was decided, Devin Boyer picked up a 7-6(4), 7-5 win at No. 6 singles, while Nico Jamison added a 4-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(5) win at the No. 3 spot to put the final score at 4-3 IU Indy.

Cleveland State will be back in action next Friday, hosting Youngstown State at 6:00 p.m.
