CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team was back in action Friday, dropping a 5-2 decision at Xavier.
"We knew Xavier would be tough, and we made it tougher on ourselves by losing the doubles point, but we battled back with four first sets in singles which I was really proud of. Despite the outcome, we continue to see growth in some areas and we will be ready to test ourselves against a good Dayton team tomorrow," head coach
Brian Etzkin said.
Cleveland State's two points on the day came during singles play, as
Lincoln Battle and
Cole Chappell both picked up wins.
Battle earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top of the lineup, while Chappell posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. This marked Battle's team-leading seventh singles win of the spring season, while Chappell marked his fourth win of dual match play.
The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow, taking on Dayton at 4:00 p.m.
