CHICAGO, Ill. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team was back in action Friday, picking up a 4-3 victory at DePaul. With the win, the Vikings are now 3-1 overall this season.
"We had some really good doubles on all three courts today, with all of the teams stepping up at the big moments. Max showed some great mental toughness in his match after getting down and experiencing some obstacles, while Devin and Lincoln handled the pressure moments to clinch the win for us. This was a great team win and I'm very proud of how the team is performing at this early stage of the spring season," head coach
Brian Etzkin said.
For the third straight match the Vikings were able to pick up the doubles point, earning wins from
Maxime Aremon/
Tristan Stine at the No. 2 spot (7-6(3)) and
Nico Jamison/
Cole Chappell and the No. 3 spot (6-4).
Although DePaul was able to even the score with a win at No. 2 singles, the Vikings responded with wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, regaining a 3-1 advantage.
At No. 3 singles,
Maxime Aremon picked up a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win, while
Devin Boyer posted a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win at the No. 6 spot.
DePaul was able to put the score at 3-2 following a win at No. 4 singles, but a win from
Lincoln Battle at the top of the lineup clinched the match for the Vikings.
Cleveland State will close out its weekend roadtrip to Chicago tomorrow night, facing Northwestern at 6:30 p.m.
