CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened Horizon League play Saturday, picking up a 4-3 victory over Youngstown State.
Although the Vikings dropped the doubles point, they were able to quickly even the match at 1-1 following a 6-4, 6-0 victory from
Tereze Vevere at No. 3 singles.
YSU responded with a win at the No. 5 spot, before
Oihane Vicario once again knotted the score at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set victory at the top of the lineup.
A win a No. 6 singles gave the edge to the Penguins once again, but a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 come-from-behind win from
Ella Franz at No. 4 singles tied the score at 3-3 with one match left on court.
Sima Heren was then able to clinch the match for the Vikings, battling for a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles to capture the 4-3 team win.
Cleveland State will continue #HLTennis play at home next weekend, hosting Chicago State on Saturday, April 5.
