PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team closed out its non-league slate Sunday, picking up a 5-2 victory at Duquesne.
Cleveland State got out to a 1-0 lead after picking up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 doubles from
Oihane Vicario and
Sima Heren (6-3) and No. 2 doubles from
Tereze Vevere and
Ella Franz (6-0).
Vicario then gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the top of the lineup, while Franz posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot to put Cleveland State up 3-0.
Sunday's clinching point came from Vevere at No. 3 singles then, as she picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory, before Heren posted the Vikings' final point of the day with a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(9) victory at the No. 2 spot.
The Vikings will open Horizon League play at home next weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Saturday, March 29.
