INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its opening weekend of the 2025 spring season Sunday, dropping a hard fought 4-3 contest at Butler.
Cleveland State's three points came during singles play, as
Carl Gedlitschka,
Devin Boyer and
Maxime Aremon all picked up wins. Gedlitschka earned a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles, while Boyer posted a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot and Aremon also earned a three-set win at No. 6 singles (5-7, 6-4, 7-5).
"We almost pulled off a tremendous win today after losing the doubles point and then six first sets in singles. We put ourselves in a tough situation and couldn't quite escape, but we will use this match to continue growing throughout the season and hopefully build on this moving forward," head coach
Brian Etzkin said.
Sunday's match marked the second contest of the first weekend of dual match play for the Vikings, as they also faced Indiana yesterday.
Cleveland State will now be back in action next weekend when the Vikings travel to Purdue (January 25) and Notre Dame (January 26).
