CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season Saturday, earning a 7-0 victory over Dayton.
Cleveland State was able to pick up the early doubles point, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Sima Heren and
Oihane Vicario earned a 7-6(5) victory at the top of the lineup to remain perfect on the year, while Tereze
Vevere and
Ella Franz posted a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot, and
Filippa Frogner and
Jenna Redmile earned a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Heren carried her momentum into singles, earning a quick 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot, before Vevere earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles to put Cleveland State up 3-0.
The Vikings' clinching point came at No. 5 singles then, as Redmile earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory to capture Cleveland State's first win of the dual match season.
Vicario posted a 6-2, 7-5 win at the top of the lineup, moving into a tie for second place on the CSU Singles Wins List with 75 total wins.
Franz (7-6(4), 7-5) and Frogner (6-3, 7-5) picked up the final two wins of the match for the Vikings at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Vikings will continue their opening weekend of the 2025 season on Monday, traveling to Ohio State on Monday, January 20.
