Viking Sports Weekly {September 16}

Volleyball
-Cleveland State will close out non-league play with two matches this week, traveling to Kent State on Thursday, September 19 before hosting Akron on Friday, September 20.
-Last time out, the Vikings captured the Hokie Invitational Tournament title, picking up wins against UNCG, Virginia Tech and Norfolk State.
-Liberty Torres was named the Tournament MVP, while Ella Mihacevich earned All-Tournament Team honors.
 
Men's Soccer
-Cleveland State will continue the 2024 campaign with a pair of home games this week, hosting No. 7 Pitt on Tuesday, September 17 and Detroit Mercy on Saturday, September 21.
-Last time out, the Vikings opened #HLMSOC play with a 2-1 loss at Oakland, with Marko Rimac scoring his first goal of the season.
 
Women's Soccer
-The Vikings will begin Horizon League play this week, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, September 19 and IU Indy on Sunday, September 22.
-This past week, Cleveland State wrapped up non-league play with a 1-0 loss at Akron.
 
Cross Country
-The Vikings will be back in action this week, competing at the All-Ohio Cross Country Classic on Friday, September 20.
-This will be the second race of the 2024 campaign for the Vikings, with the women's 6K set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Cedarville, Ohio.
-Last time out, the Vikings were paced by Ana Crangle and Natalie Keller at the Tommy Evans Invite, with both recording sub-20 minute 5K times.
 
Men's Golf
-Cleveland State opened its 2024 fall campaign with two events last week, placing fourth at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational and 11th at the Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate.
-Individually, Brody Simms paced the Vikings in both events, finishing T-6 at the Marshall Invite and T-25 at the Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate.
-The Vikings will now be off from competition until September 30 and October 1, when they host the annual Tom Tontimonia Invitational.
 
Women's Golf
-The Vikings will kick off the 2024 fall campaign with two events this week, participating in the Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic (September 16-17) and Roseann Schwartz Invitational (September 22-23).
-Cleveland State returns five players from last year's squad, and welcomes just one newcomer to this year's roster.
-The two events this week will mark the first of four events for the Vikings this fall.
 
Women's Tennis
-Cleveland State will begin its fall campaign this week, traveling to Cancun, Mexico for the Princess Hotels College Cup (September 18-20).
-This will be the first of four fall tournaments for the Vikings, including the Horizon League Individual Championships (October 4-6) and Viking Invitational (October 18-20), which will both be hosted at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
-Cleveland State returns five players from last year's lineup, including reigning Horizon League Player of the Year Oihane Vicario. This group will be joined by two newcomers for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
 
Men's Tennis
-The Vikings will begin the 2024 fall campaign with a pair of tournaments this week, taking part in the WMU Invite (September 20-21) and ITA All-American Championships (September 21-22).
-Cleveland State will be kicking off a six-tournament fall campaign, including the Horizon League Individual Championships (September 27-29) and Viking Invitational (October 25-27), which will both be hosted at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
-The Vikings return eight players from last season's Horizon League Championship team, and will welcome two newcomers for the 2024-25 season.
 
Viking Of The Week Nominees
Ella Mihacevich, Volleyball
Named to the Hokie Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 9.64 assists, 2.09 digs and 1.82 kills per set. Combined for 106 assists on the weekend, eclipsing 2,000 assists for her career.
 
Marko Rimac, Men's Soccer
Recorded his first goal of the season in the #HLMSOC opener at Oakland, becoming one of seven Vikings to notch at least one goal on the year.
 
Brody Simms, Men's Golf
Paced the Vikings in both events last week, finishing T-6 at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational and T-25 at the Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate.
