Cleveland State Athletics Unveils Renovated Academic Centers

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University Athletics Department officially unveiled the renovated Academic Centers in the Physical Education Building and Wolstein Center last week, providing new-look study hall areas, collaboration spaces and conference room updates for 365+ Viking student-athletes.

The Academic Center renovations marked the completion of Phase I of the Woodling Gymnasium Enhancement Initiative, which was announced in November of 2022.

Completion of the Academic Center renovations was made possible by an NCAA AASP Grant – which was awarded to Cleveland State last Fall – and matching lead gifts and philanthropic support from generous donors.

In addition to the updated study hall areas and collaboration spaces, the project also included graphics, signage and technology in both the PE Building and Wolstein Center.

"We talk every day about delivering a transformational experience for Viking student-athletes, and this project is exactly what we mean," shared CSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Garrett. "We look forward to continuing stellar academic performances by our incredible student-athletes and we now shift our focus into funding the next phase of Woodling improvements including much-needed renovations to six team locker rooms (volleyball, wrestling, softball, men's and women's fencing, track and field/cross country) in the very near future."

Individuals interested in supporting future phases of the Woodling Gymnasium Enhancement Initiative, which includes more than $1.5 million in planned improvements to the 50-year old building, may contact Brandon Longmeier, Assistant Athletic Director for the Viking Fund at (216) 630-2974.
