Cleveland State Men's Tennis Comes Away With 6-1 Win At IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued Horizon League play Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory at IUPUI. With the win, the Vikings are now 14-6 overall this year and 4-0 in #HLTennis play.

"It was a contentious match today, IUPUI came to play like they always do," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "A lot of credit goes to Lincoln and Kade for coming back after losing their first sets - their second sets really turned the match for us today. We are happy to be coming back to Cleveland with two wins this weekend."

The Vikings were able to pick up the doubles point against IUPUI, getting wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At the No. 2 spot, Kade Mindry and Nico Jamison earned a 7-6(3) win, while Lincoln Battle and Devin Boyer posted a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles. Mindry and Jamison picked up their win after battling back from being down 2-5 early in the set.

Mikael Erler then gave the Vikings a 2-0 advantage to begin singles, as he earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot. Jamison put Cleveland State up 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Mindry eventually put the clinching point on the board with a 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

Cleveland State was also able to get points at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, with Battle posting a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at the top of the lineup and Carl Gedlitschka earning a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(7) win at No. 6 singles.

The Vikings will be back in action with a single match next weekend, traveling to Chicago State on Saturday, April 6.
