Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Remain Third After Day Two of #HLSD Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Vikings are third with 202 points after two days of competition at the 2024 Horizon League Championships.

The Vikings started the evening with five in the B-finals of the 500-yard freestyle. Daniel Lyngaas won the heat after clocking a 4:31.69. Quinn DeGraaf (4:36.21) placed 11th, Jake Taulbee (4:36.99) in 12th, Connor Green (4:37.07) in 13th, and Vittorio Cappabianca (4:39.40) in 15th.

Jackson Nester had an outstanding day in the 200-yard IM, as the junior finished as the runner-up with the second-fastest time in program history, 1:46.57. Nester was .01 shy of tying the fastest time in school history. In prelims, he swam 1:46.66, which is the fourth fastest time in history. Also in the event, Tyler Schultze clocked 1:49.69 to come in 13th.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Paddy Johnston came in third after putting up the third-fastest time in program history, 19.73. Kenny Thomas (20.40) came in 11th, Dogukan Tombul (20.52) in 13th, and Josh Merchbaker (20.83) in 16th.

The freshman duo of Xander Austin (308.85) and James Wolf (290.60) finished third and fifth respectively in 1m diving.

Cleveland State capped off the evening with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Tombul, Green, Thomas, and Johnston clocked the fourth-fastest time in school history, 1:20.06.
