UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued the opening weekend of dual match play Sunday, dropping a hard fought 4-3 match at Big Ten opponent Penn State.

For the second straight match the Vikings were able top pick up the early doubles point, earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the 1-0 advantage. At No. 2 doubles, Kade Mindry and Nico Jamison posted a 6-4 win, while Lincoln Battle and Devin Boyer earned a matching 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Penn State was then able to even the match with a win at No. 2 singles, before Carl Gedlistchka regained a 2-1 lead for the Vikings with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot.

Penn State responded once again with a win at the top of the lineup to even the score at 2-2, but a 6-4, 7-6 victory from Battle at No. 3 singles put the Vikings back on top 3-2 with two matches left to play.

Although Cleveland State was able to force both of the remaining matches into third sets, Penn State was able to pick up the final two wins of the day, earning victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch the 4-3 victory.

Cleveland State will be back at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion next Sunday (January 28), hosting Butler and Duquesne in a pair of matches.
