Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Splits Day in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State split its final day in Indianapolis as the Green and White defeated Milwaukee, 181-117, but fell to IUPUI for a second straight day, 183-115. On the afternoon, the Vikings won four individual races and one relay.

"Today was incredible," said coach Burandt. "We aren't historically known as a sprint program, and today we sprinted and were competitive in ways we've never been able to before. We had the most fun, were the loudest team, and were incredibly competitive. I can't wait to see how our team performs in the next dual meet against Youngstown and at Magnus."

Cleveland State started the day with a second-and-third-place showing in the 400-yard medley relay. The A-team of Josh Merchbaker, Tyler Schultze, Thomas Lundin, and Paddy Johnston clocked a 3:24.48.

In the first individual race of the day, the 1000-yard freestyle, Jackson Nester (9:36.79) took second, and Tanner Beck (9:59.79) claimed third.

Cleveland State swept the top three spots in the 50-yard butterfly; Johnston (22.47), Thomas, (23.01), and Merchbaker (23.16).

The Vikings had runner-up performances by Johnston (20.63) in the 50-yard freestyle, Merchbaker (23.49) in the 50-yard backstroke, Nester (4:40.19) in the 500-yard freestyle, and Lundin (1:56.20) in the 200-yard IM.
