Kerro Takes Third on Opening Night of HL Meet

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened action in the Horizon League Championships Wednesday evening at the Oakland Aquatic Center.

The CSU men sit second with 68 points after an abbreviated opening day while the Viking women are in fourth place with 83 points.

True freshman Emma Kerro highlighted the night for CSU by finishing third in her debut league championship. She took bronze with her score of 273.80 in women's 3-meter diving. Kerro's hallmark was her consistency as she was one of only two divers in finals to score at least 40 points on every dive. Her best effort was a back 2.5 somersault tuck that earned 51.80 points.

Junior Erica Henrichsen also scored in diving for CSU as she took 12th with 219.55 points.

The CSU men took runner-up honors in the opening event of the Championships—the 200 medley relay. Junior Dominik Niedzialek, sophomore Jack Krusinski and seniors DJ Arslanian and Jack MacDonald finished in 1:27.30, becoming the third fastest quartet in program history.

Niedzialek also led off CSU's runner-up men's 800 free relay and was followed by junior Timothy Kubacki, senior Tyler Stevenson and freshman Nathen Eberhardt. The group posted a time of 6:33.69, the second-fastest in school history and less than a second off the school record.

The CSU women outpaced their seed in the 800 free relay by taking third place. Juniors Sule van der Merwe and Irena Weclawiak, senior Gabriella Marinelli and freshman Rachel Contich combined to finish in 7:28.32, becoming the fourth-fastest quartet in program history.

Senior Chuchu Yang, juniors Alana Cartwright and Shaw Barney and senior Madi Jaszcz finished fourth in the women's 200 medley relay in 1:42.34.

The first full day of the Championships will take place Thursday as three individual swimming events and the 200 free relay are contested for both genders along with men's 1-meter diving.
