VALPARAISO, Ind.- The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team defeated Valparaiso 123-69 on Friday afternoon.
Cleveland State won all of their swimming events that the swimmers competed in. The Vikings (10-5, 4-2 HL) had first place finishes by freshman Rowan Elbadry, senior Alex Johansson, sophomore Jodi Turk, senior Christine Kopacko, junior Hayley Smith, senior Nikki Kolis, sophomore Beth Robertson, and freshman Dayna Kiekebosch.
Elbadry was part of one relay win in the 200 free relay. She also won the 50 free (24.48) and the 100 fly (1:00.80). Johansson was also a part of the two relay wins in the 200 medley (1:50.87) and 200 free relay (1:40.09). She took first in the 100 free with a time of 54.09. Turk won the 1,000 free with a nice time of 10:40.10. Kopacko earned a top finish in the 200 free, timing out at 1:59.25. Smith continued the great afternoon for CSU finishing atop in the 200 IM (2:14.25). Kolis joined the first place finishers winning the 100 back (1:02.52). Robertson swam in the 500 free event finishing with a wall touch at 5:18.58.
Kiekebosch won the 100 breast with a top finish of 1:09.61. CSU won both the 200 free relay and medley relay. The Vikings time in the free relay was 1:40.09. Elbadry, Johansson, McConnell, and Kopacko all participated. In the medley relay the green and white timed out at 1:50.87. Smith, Kiekebosch, Johansson, and Kopacko led the way for Cleveland State.
Head Coach Wally Morton spoke about the Vikings' performance against Valparaiso. "It was great to get our tenth win of the season. For several years, we have had double-digit wins and have had much success reaching that goal. I was very surprised on how fast we swam in a difficult environment. Both teams dominated from the very beginning of the meet with the women winning every event. I feel our men and women are swimming faster and will lead into the Horizon League Swimming Championships," said a proud Morton.
CSU will be back in the pool tomorrow afternoon for their final meet of the regular season, as the Vikings will travel to South Bend, Indiana to take on Notre Dame. Swimming and diving will begin at 12:00 p.m.
