CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season Friday evening, as the Vikings defeated Xavier, 4-3.

"This was a great win for the program tonight and for the team this season," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "When we are finally able to get our doubles teams clicking we are going to be a very good team. We had great crowd support tonight, as 161 people came out to watch the match and they definitely helped us in a close match against Xavier."

After dropping the doubles point and the first two singles matches, the Vikings climbed their way back and earned the 4-3 come from behind victory against the Musketeers. Kara Sherwood sparked the team with the first singles win of the night, as she claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Andrea Wolf at No. 3 singles.

Alex Power followed Sherwood's victory with one of her own, earning a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over Kally Alkire at the No. 4 position. Nicole Janek then evened the score at 3-3 with a win at No. 5 singles, claiming a 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Cleveland State's clinching point came from Alex Bush, as she claimed a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 6 singles.

"It was a good team effort and an excellent come from behind win for us," Etzkin said. "It was good to see Alex Bush back on the court after sitting out due to injuries, and of course she isn't where she wants to be, but she is getting back into the swing of things. Hopefully we continue to improve during every match and when it gets to league play this will be a very strong team."

The Vikings will return to action on Sunday (Feb. 12) when they host the Akron Zips at 11:00 a.m. at the Paramount Tennis Club.
