St Bonaventure, NY- The Cleveland State Vikings' women's swimming and diving team came back strong following a week off last week, taking down St. Bonaventure on the road, 143-99.

While it took a total team effort for the Vikings to come away with the victory over the Bonnies, two swimmers, a senior and a freshman helped lead the way for the win.

The senior Alice Sommerville was a multiple time winner for the Vikings, coming away with first place finishes in both individual and relay events. Sommerville started off the meet in the first event teaming up with Alexandra JohanssonJoanna Olsson, and Jamie Puls to get a win in the 400-yard medley relay (3:56.11). The senior also was a winner 50-yard freestyle (24.48), and 200 breaststroke (2:24.63).

"She (Sommerville) is dinged up right now and has some things she's been dealing with in terms of injuries and she just hung in their tough," Head Coach Wally Morton said on the effort. "She did a fantastic job."

While the senior was huge with three wins, a freshman also came through in a big way in the pool and was also recognized by Morton, and that freshman is Jodi Turk. Turk earned victories in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:29.46) and 500-yard freestyle (5:08.34). Morton was especially impressed with the 500-yard win.

"Jodi has been absolutely outstanding in her swims, she took control in her 1,000 and came back in the 500 and I was really impressed," he said. "The 500-yard freestyle is more a sprint for her but she really closed the race."

Other swimmers who swam well for CSU on the day and picked up individual wins included Joanna Olsson who won the 200 IM (2:09.59) and Christine Kopacko in the 100-yard freestyle (54.09). Freshman diver Sammie Sposet also picked up two more wins in her young career, winning both the 1-meter dive (250.04) and the 3-meter dive (243.30).

Overall Coach Morton was very happy with the way the team performed all day long.

"Real good job by the women," Morton said. "They took control of the meet and kept control of the meet all day long because of their balance."

CSU will be back in the pool next weekend as they get ready to host the CSU Viking Invitational. The invitational will take place over three days, beginning next Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium on the Cleveland State campus.
