COLUMBUS, Ohio - Junior Mark de Swardt finished the 400 IM in 37th place (4:01.09), marking Cleveland State's best finish on the second day of the USA Swimming National Championship on Friday (Dec. 3).
Sophomores Joanna Olsson and Alice Sommerville also competed on Friday. Olsson swam the 400 IM in 4:26.60. Sommerville participated in two events, swimming the 100 fly in 56.11 and the 100 breast in 1:04.91.
"I thought we swam much better today," assistant coach Andrew Hancock said. "We're doing a great job racing, especially where our fitness level is concerned. Tomorrow our swimmers will be competing in their best events, and I expect at least one of our swimmers to be in the finals."
Olsson and de Swardt will be in action again tomorrow (Dec. 4), as will Berry Thompson and Brian Ferro, as the Vikings will conclude their participation in the USA Swimming National Championship.
