COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team swam split a pair of meets on the road on Friday (Nov. 5), falling to Ohio State, 178-113, and defeating Denison, 152-148.

"We had a lot of good performances today," head coach Wally Morton said. "We had a lot of close races, and we won many of them, meaning we're finishing our races and finishing them well."

The biggest difference in the meet with Denison came in the diving events, as Kacey Cummings, Kathleen Chandler and Alexandra DiMasso finished first, second and third, respectively, in both dives. The Vikings ended up victorious against the Big Red by a margin of four points, making the performances by the divers all the more crucial.

"It was the first time the women had ever gone 1-2-3 against an opponent," diving coach Rich Karban said. "It made a huge difference in the team scores, and I'm very proud of our performances."

Alice Sommerville, Joanna Olsson and Carys Behn led the Vikings in the swimming events, with each picking up multiple individual wins. Sommerville won the 50 free (23.79) and placed second overall in the 100 fly (56.32). Behn beat Denison's swimmers in the 100 free (52.57), the 500 free (5:05.57) and the 200 free (1:52.98), while Olsson was victorious against the Big Red in the 200 fly and 200 IM.

"I'm very pleased with the performances," Morton said. "We had an extremely tough week of training, and I thought our swimmers competed very hard today."

Cleveland State (7-1) will be back in action next Saturday (Nov. 13) when the Vikings will travel to New York to compete against St. Bonaventure. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
