EVANSTON, Ill. - The women's swimming and diving broke a Horizon League record and set four CSU records on Saturday (Nov. 20), the second day of the Vikings' participation in the Northwestern TYR Invitational.

"This was one of the best sessions in the history of our program," head coach Wally Morton said. "We had great contributions from everyone on the team."

Joanna Olsson once again had a stellar day, breaking both the school and conference marks in the 400 IM. She won the race in 4:20.09, breaking the Horizon League record of 4:20.85 and the CSU mark of 4:22.99, also set by Olsson in 2009.

Olsson also helped the 800 freestyle relay team to a third place finish in 7:38.82 and the 200 medley relay squad to a second place showing in 1:44.48, with both times being new CSU records.

In two days of action, Olsson has set seven school records at the Northwestern TYR Invitational.

"Joanna is absolutely lighting the pool on fire," Morton said. "What she's done the past two days is incredible."

Alice Sommerville also had a career day, setting a new Cleveland State record in the 100 fly, taking second in 56.17. She was also a member of both record-breaking relay squads and tied for second in the 100 breast (1:04.25).

Carys Behn took second in the 200 free (1:50.59) as well as being a participant in the two record-setting relays. Alexandra Johannson was the fourth member of the 200 medley squad, while Christine Kopacko rounded out the 800 free relay team.

After two days the Vikings are in third in the overall standings with 397.5 points. CSU trails Northwestern (890.5) and Iowa State (472.5) and is ahead of North Dakota (305), Kenyon (238) and UIC (159.5).

"It will be a challenge to see if we can maintain the energy for the last day of this invitational," Morton said. "I'm very pleased with our performances so far, and I'm looking forward to more great swims tomorrow."

The Vikings will conclude their participation in the Northwestern TYR Invitational with another full day of events on Sunday (Nov. 21).
