EVANSTON, Ill. - Joanna Olsson broke four school records, concluding a very successful first day at the Northwestern TYR Invitational on Friday (Nov. 19).

Olsson finished the 500 free in 4:53.56 and swam the 200 IM in 2:04.86, placing second overall in both events. She was also a member of a 400 medley relay squad, that finished as the runner-up in 3:50.10, and a 200 freestyle relay team that placed second in 1:34.00. All four times are new CSU records.

"The women are absolutely on fire," head coach Wally Morton said. "They have set new personal bests all across the board, and what Joanna Olsson did today is just great. I'm very pleased with our swimming today."

Alice Sommerville won the 50 breaststroke in 29.09 and placed second in the 50 free with a time of 23.39. Sommerville, Carys Behn and Alexandra Johansson were also on the two record-setting relay squads.

Kacey Cummings led the Vikings with a third place finish in the 1-meter dive (253.40), the day's only diving event.

The women currently sit in third place out of the six teams in the invitational with a total of 195 points. They trail Northwestern, who is in first with 446 points, and Iowa State (209) and are ahead of North Dakota (127), Kenyon (101) and fellow Horizon League member UIC (77).

"Our athletes are swimming in more events than they would at the Horizon League Championship, so this will really be a challenge to see how we hold up over three days," Morton said. "Right now we are off to a very good start."

The Vikings will continue competing at the Northwestern TYR Invitational with events all day tomorrow (Nov. 20).
