ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team, off to its best start in program history, improved to 8-1 on the year with a 144-94 victory over St. Bonaventure on Saturday (Nov. 13).

"This was a good win over a top level Atlantic 10 team," head coach Wally Morton said. "Our team swam well in the most difficult pool we'll compete in this season. I really feel good about this win."

Joanna Olsson led the Vikings with three individual wins, taking first in the 1,000 free (10:38.82), the 200 IM (2:08.75) and the 200 fly (2:09.13).

Carys Behn won the 200 free in1:54.94 and the 500 free in 5:11.08, while Alice Sommerville finished first in the 50 free (24.29) and the 100 free (53.27).

Two freshmen also had very good performances on the day. Christine Kopacko helped the 400 medley relay team to a victory (3:57.67), finished second in the 100 free (54.16) and placed third in the 200 free (2:01.44). Ashley Rossi had a pair of third place finishes, swimming the 1,000 free in 10:50.06 and finishing the 500 free with a time of 5:18.72.

Kacey Cummings won both the 1-meter (259.05) and 3-meter (263.17) diving events, picking up her first victories in those dives since the first meet of the season.

"This was a team effort all around," Morton said. "It wasn't just the swimmers, but the divers as well who helped us get this win. We had good, balanced performances from everybody today."

CSU is now 8-1 for the first time in school history. The Vikings' previous best record through nine meets was 7-2, set in the 1982-83 and 2009-10 seasons.

Cleveland State will continue its season next weekend with its last big road competition of the fall, the Northwestern TYR Invitational, which will take place Nov. 19-21.
