ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team didn't let its first loss of the season last to long as the Vikings rebounded with a pair of victories on Sunday at the River Oaks Racquet Club.

CSU opened the day with a 5-2 victory over Duquesne and followed that with a 7-0 triumph over Robert Morris.

The Vikings lost their first match of the weekend, 5-2, to Xavier on Sunday.

CSU improved to 3-1 this season with the two wins today.

"I was proud of the way we came back after yesterday's tough loss to Xavier," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Both Duquesne and Robert Morris are good teams and have some talented players so to be able to come away with two wins is a nice accomplishment.

"We still haven't peaked as a team, but I like where we are at and some of the things we have done. We still have a lot of work to do to get where we want, but we are definitely moving in the right direction."

CSU swept the three doubles matches against the Dukes and then went on to win four of the six singles matches.

The Vikings also won the doubles point against RMU, taking two of the three matches, and then swept all six singles contests.

Senior Ryan Hamning teamed with Phil Orno to claim a win at No. 1 doubles against Duquesne and then won both his singles matches to run his win streak to three straight.

"Ryan put together a nice weekend for us, winning all three of his matches," Etzkin said.

The match against Robert Morris also marked the debut for both Jay Jones and Aris Spirtos, both of whom picked up straight set victories.

"It was nice to be able to get some of our other players in the lineup and get them some experience," Etzkin said. "Both Jay and Aris did a nice job today and hopefully then can use this experience and grow as players."

The Vikings will return to action with two matches in New York next weekend, beginning with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Niagara on Saturday (Feb. 6).
