CLEVELAND, Ohio - After losing the doubles point and the first two singles matches, CSU came back to win three singles matches, but the comeback was just short as Toledo defeated CSU 4-3.
Freshman Melissa Holzinger (4-10) picked up her first dual match victory of the season, defeating Maha Guirguis 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Sanda Bjelan and sophomore Charlotte Gibbons were the other singles winners of the day. Bjelan (7-6) defeated Nadia Zoubareva 7-6 (4), 5-7, 10-5 at No. 4 singles while Gibbons (4-2) defeated Sarah Horning 7-6 (4), 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
"Our No. 3 doubles played aggressive and better this match," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We were down 3-0, came back to keep it close, but they proved to be too much. I am excited about our improvement and the tremendous progress we have made."
The Vikings travel with the men to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2:00 p.m. and Niagara on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m.
