DAYTON, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's swimming and diving team fell by a score of 136-87 against Wright State at WSU Natatorium in Dayton, Ohio.

"We are just very worn down and tired from training hard," head coach Wally Morton said, "But that doesn't take away anything from Wright State - they are a very good team."

Despite the overall loss, there was plenty to write home about regarding the day's competition that saw reigning Horizon League diver of the week Dan Baiko sweep the diving events for the sixth time this season. Individual winners for the day's events also included Jakub Dobies in the 200 yard IM and newcomer Deni Gasparin in the 200 yard breaststroke.

"It was a tough, tough meet," assistant coach Andrew Hancock said, "but that's what you expect when you compete against Wright State."

The freshman Gasparin, who today competed in his second meet since joining the team this month, is so far two for two swimming the breaststoke, having scored at least one victory in each meet he has competed in. His time in the 200 breast is currently the second best on the team next to Dobies, who set the school record this past December at the Miami (OH) Invitational.

"Deni is going to be among the top in the conference in the breaststroke," Hancock said, "He has really made a great adjustment to the shorter course after swimming in longer pools in high school, and his accomplishments so far are very impressive."

Also putting forth a standout performance for the day was Khaled Elgamal, who swam one of his best career times in the 1,000 freestyle while placing second in the event. Elgamal also scored a second place finish in the 500 free.

Up next for the Vikings is a home meet against Niagara, held at the Busbey Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 26, and scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. EST.
