HILO, Hawaii - Dominant play at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles earned CSU the fourth and decisive point in a 4-3 victory over Hawai'i Hilo on March 13. CSU improves to 8-6 with the win.

Freshman Charlotte Gibbons and junior Lindsay Sellers defeated Hilo's Nicole Campbell and Justine Abella, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles and junior Jenn Myers combined with sophomore Kristin Chamberlain for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles to capture the decisive doubles point.

Due to inclement weather, the contest started with singles play, which the two teams split. Senior Sarah Galon set the tone at the top of the lineup with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Christie Pagatpatan, supported by straight sets wins by Gibbons and Myers. Hilo won matches at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 singles to tie the contest heading into doubles play.

"Winning the doubles point was huge for us," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We have become good at winning 4-3 matches and the doubles play was the difference. Despite the bad weather, we didn't let the match slip away."

The Vikings conclude their trip in Hawaii against Hawai'i BYU on March 14.
