CHICAGO, Ill. - The Vikings set three new top times, including two by sophomore Jen MacLauchlan, and Cleveland State entered a diver for the first time in several years in a 138-88 loss at UIC Saturday.
MacLauchlan clocked a top time 2:15.16 en route to a first place swim in the 200 IM, shaving over two seconds off her previous best effort of 2:17.86 set last week against St. Francis (PA). She followed that effort with a team-best 1:00.72 in the 100 fly.
The other top time of the day came near the beginning of the meet when sophomore Sandra Bunker posted a 11:06.53 in the 1,000 free.
"We have a good group of people swimming really fast right now," head coach Mike Lehto said. "We are swimming pretty fast. It may not show in the dual competitions, but we will be alright when it's time for the league championships."
Senior Marianne Lionell, the team's leading swimmer, won the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.59. She also placed second in the 50 free (25.16).
Junior Lesley Jones placed second in both the 100 free (55.84) and 200 free (2:03.37).
The Vikings have concluded the regular season and now only have the Horizon League championships left on the schedule. The league meet is set for Feb. 21-24 at UIC's Flames Natatorium.
