Four Top Times Fall As Buckeyes Down Vikings

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Bjorn Schantz fell just 0.60 seconds short of his own school record in the 200 free with a time of 1:39.75 and won the 500 free in 4:34.42 but the Vikings fell in the dual score, 161-79, to 14th-ranked Ohio State on Tuesday (Nov. 21) night at the Busbey Natatorium. The loss moves the Vikings to 7-2 on the while the Buckeyes improve to 4-0.

 

"Bjorn had a terrific meet," head coach Wally Morton said. "There have only been four times better than that in our history, so that was an excellent time and we're very pleased with that."

 

Sophomores Marko Milenkovic (:46.40 in 100 free) and Nedim Nisic (:51.08 in 100 fly) each posted team top times en route to second place swims. The 200 medley relay team (Nisic, sophomore Stef Potgieter, junior Johan Norling and Milenkovic) also recorded a team season-best effort with a time of 1:33.72.

 

Senior Chris Dalman was edged for the first time this season, finishing second in the three-meter dive (350.25). He had kept his unbeaten season alive halfway through the meet, posting a 340.95 in the one-meter dive.

 

Potgieter placed second in the 100 breast (:58.74) while Norling captured third in the 50 free (:21.88) and fellow junior Dave Duecker finished third in the 200 IM 1:58.14.

 

"We had a number of great swims tonight, and we're happy about that," Morton said. "We're looking forward to resting over the Thanksgiving holiday and coming back and improving our performances at Miami."

 

The Vikings return to action on Thursday, Nov. 30 at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. The tournament will run through Saturday, Dec. 2. CSU's next dual meet is on Jan. 7 against Duquesne and Xavier.
