CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State's meet with Wright State on Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Busbey Natatorium was as close as a swim meet can be. Tied at 108 heading into the final event of the day (400 free relay), Wright State edged the Vikings to gain the upper hand in the battle for Horizon League supremacy, 121-112. The loss was CSU's first setback of the year and they fall to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League.

"I want to congratulate Wright State. We have great respect for their program," head coach Wally Morton said. "We knew it was going to be a close meet.

"The fact that we were this competitive with Wright State this early in the year was very encouraging."

Sophomore Stef Potgieter won the 200 breast with a time of 2:04.36 to set up the tie. Controversy struck the event as CSU appeared to take the lead, however, a CSU disqualification made the meet was tie at 108 heading into the final event.

"I was pleased with our swims," Morton said. "We had the DQs that hurt us, but it was nothing we couldn't overcome."

The two tightest and most intriguing races of the day before the 400 free relay were the 1,000 and the 200 IM. Wright State's Scott Lang (9:27.57) held off senior Bjorn Schantz (9:28.73) in a close swim, and in the process, eclipsed Schantz's top Horizon League time of 9:28.49. Wright State's Nathan Demchuk finished 15 second behind Schantz.

The Vikings swept the Raider-less one-meter dive and, heading into the last third of the meet, the contest was tied at 61. The Raiders would regain the lead in the 100 free as Rafael Candido edged sophomore Marko Milenkovic.

In the 200 IM, WSU's Warren Thompson edged sophomore Marko Milenkovic by just one-tenth of a second, clocking a 1:54.29. Wright State's Graham Parker took the key third place spot with a time of 1:55.53.

Wright State also held the edge in the 50 free, as Zach Fisher edged junior Johan Norling by .13 with a time of :21.27. Once again, the Raiders also got third, as T.J. Collins edged freshman Stephen Grove by a slim .06 margin.

The Vikings continue at home on Tuesday, Nov. 21 against Ohio State. The meet is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
